  1. I don’t know if what I’m going to tell you has really altered the entire course of my live but, for sure, it has influenced my life a lot…..and still keeps on doing it.
I was living in Turin since almost 9 years, where immediately after my engineering degree I had the lucky to find a really good job in a company where I immediately gained the confidence of my boss and of the owner. Business trips in Italy, in Bulgaria, in Romania, a good wage and extremely good prospective for my carrier in the short term period.
At that time talking with some friends which were sometime looking for their first job or most of the time looking for a GOOD job after years spent at the University, I felt lucky and in fact I was.

Nevertheless I miss something, I miss challenges, maybe I miss the competition to get a new job that I had never experienced before, so in a, standard rainy Sunday afternoon in Turin , while surfing in internet I found an attractive job vacant of an anonymous Multinational Company who was looking for engineers, no mention about the place of work, no specific mention about the job, nothing! The only certain information was that the first interview would have been held in ROME…… nice I thought “what a better excuse to arrange a weekend in Rome!!”. I applied and at that moment I felt like a boy who sends the ticket that he found inside the snack to the contest to win the t-shirt of a famous football player, means: dreaming for the following 5 minutes of wearing that t-shit, and forget about it immediately after those 5 minutes of having sent the ticket.

That was not the case, Monday afternoon they call me and the following Friday I was in Rome parting with some friends for the weekend and waiting for the interview the Monday after.
No time (and to be honest no willingness  ) to go into the details of the interview and the following assessment process but in 2 months time I had the proposal for a new job in a Multinational Company. Up to here you might say: “well it’s a quite normal story of an apparently normal guy who decided to change his job” and you would be right unless you consider the following:

    1. I’m from Taranto a small city in the south of Italy with a beautiful sea;
    2. during the last 3 years I was living in Turin with my girlfriend
    3. don’t ask me why but, I did not inform her, either about the application nor about the assessment process for the new job
    4. my former girlfriend, even being born in Taranto, hated Taranto and she never would have came back to live there
    5. and last but not least THE MULTINATIONAL COMPANY WAS BASED IN TARANTO

Now you can imagine what a huge problem I had to face. I tried to reach a compromise but no way to do it! Therefore I moved to Taranto alone and a love story of 8 years has become nowadays a good friendship.

Many changes have happened to my life after that: a new job, new colleagues, a new girlfriend, I bought a new apartment but I have to say that coming back to Taranto has meant for me,to restart building a network since all my friends were in Turin and especially at the beginning it has been really difficult.

Now I can say that I’m very happy about the choice I have done at that time but I’m starting being scared of the fact that 3 months ago I moved again!! Yes I did. I’m now in Madrid (..for the same company this time) but again with the girlfriend faraway (and probably not happy about my decision) with all my friends in Taranto and Turin and somewhere else in the World and a new friendship network to build here. I hope to have taken the right decision also in this case but now it's too early in order to be able to answer to this question

Nevertheless I would always recommend whatsoever it is the effect TO MAKE A DECISION otherwise the others will do it for you.

  2. Hello Mimmo,

    Thanks for sharing your story.

Definitively, everyone must make their own decision (and no one else).

It is clear that with every decision we make, the course of our life will be different from if we would not have made it.

But, don´t you think that your ending will be the same one in any case?... maybe it is and the only difference is the way you take for reaching it.

  3. Sorry but I disagree.
For me Life is a time-bound sequence of events, on which you have a really small influence, but the effect and the consequences of each one of them is tremendously different depending on who is on your side when it happens.
Maybe the sequence has been decided by someone else but for sure, with your choices, you can still decide with whom you want to face them.
